About DFI
History, mandate, vision, structure and leadership of the Department of Factories Inspectorate.
History of DFI
The Department of Factories Inspectorate (DFI) is the national agency responsible for occupational health and safety in factories, offices and shops. It traces its origin to the first factory inspection duties of the colonial Department of Labour and was established as a separate inspectorate after the passage of the Factories, Offices and Shops Act, 1970 (Act 328). Today DFI inspects and registers workplaces in all sixteen regions, examines plant and equipment, investigates accidents and trains workers and employers.
